Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) will host the 32nd Sino-Japanese Modern Engineering and Technology Symposium, Port Subgroup on November 22nd in Hualien.

The first Sino-Japanese Modern Engineering and Technology Symposium (SJMETS) was held in 1980 as the brainchild of contemporary engineering luminaries Po-chen Wu, Shu-fang Wang, and Chien-chin Wu. The symposium was envisioned as a platform for exchange between the domestic engineering sector and related Japanese government and institute experts. The 32nd SJMETS, held from November 19th (Sunday) to 24th (Friday), is covering 51 issues in a total of 17 subgroup sessions. TIPC is handling the Port Subgroup session, which will be organized at the Port of Hualien. The session will start on November 22nd (Wednesday) at 9:00am in the Parkview Hotel. TIPC VP of Engineering Kuo-ming Chang will host the session. Participation is free of charge and an estimated 120 experts from related agencies, businesses, and consultancies are expected to attend. It is hoped that this year’s session will substantively enhance domestic technical engineering expertise and capabilities.

To advance government green energy policy priorities, Japanese industry experts and academics in the field of wind energy have been invited to attend the session to discuss the engineering and equipment issues related to offshore wind turbine facilities. Key issues on the agenda include:

  1. The current state and future prospects of floating and fixed-bottom wind turbine facilities.

Presenter: Mr. Takashi Matsunobu, Chief Project Manager, Natural Energy Generation System Production, Hitachi Ltd.

  2. The design and installation of offshore wind turbine facilities.

Presenter: Hori Tetsuro, Deputy Director, Engineering Division, Shimizu Corporation

  3. Approaches to and experiences with preparing ports in Japan for the effects of global climate change.

Psenter: Jun Sasaki, Professor, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo

The organizers hope to leverage Japan’s development of advanced wind power technologies to help advance the future promotion and growth of the green energy sector in Taiwan. Moreover, it is hoped that this symposium continues to advance positive bilateral interactions and exchanges and creates a new milestone in technological development for both countries.
